Migration planned
around your risk,
not ours.
A cloud migration roadmap is a phased plan for moving workloads in a sequence that manages risk and business disruption, rather than moving everything at once. We build that roadmap, and we can stay involved through cutover.
Discuss a MigrationThe risk in most migrations isn't the move. It's the sequence.
Migrations rarely fail because the destination is wrong. They fail because the wrong things move first: a system with hidden dependencies gets migrated in isolation, a data migration runs longer than the maintenance window allows, or a team discovers a compliance requirement mid-cutover that should have been caught in planning.
Denvan's migration work starts with a readiness assessment that maps dependencies, data gravity, and business risk before any sequencing decisions get made. Workloads are then grouped by migration strategy (rehost, replatform, refactor, or retire) and sequenced so that the highest-risk moves happen with the most preparation, not the least.
The result is a roadmap your team can execute with a clear understanding of what happens when, and why, rather than a generic playbook applied to your specific environment.
Migration planning fits several distinct situations.
- Organizations moving to AWS for the first time from on-premises infrastructure
- Companies consolidating multiple AWS accounts or migrating between organizational structures
- Teams migrating off another cloud provider or a legacy hosting arrangement
- Organizations that attempted a migration internally and hit unplanned complexity
- Companies under a deadline, such as a data center exit or contract expiration
- Leadership teams who need a defensible migration business case before committing budget
What a migration engagement covers.
Migration Readiness Assessment
A dependency, data gravity, and risk assessment of the workloads under consideration.
Workload Sequencing
Grouping by migration strategy and sequencing by dependency and risk, not alphabetically or by convenience.
Phased Migration Roadmap
A specific, dated plan your team can execute, with business-level impact estimates at each phase.
Cutover Planning
Runbooks and rollback plans for each migration phase, so cutover weekends aren't improvised.
Post-Migration Validation
Verification that migrated workloads perform and cost what the plan projected.
Cost Modeling
Projected AWS costs for the target architecture, modeled before migration, not discovered after.
Planning and execution are separate decisions.
Migration roadmap work follows our standard assessment and strategy process: understand the environment, assess readiness and risk, and present a phased roadmap to your leadership team. That roadmap is a complete deliverable on its own.
From there, Denvan can stay involved through implementation and cutover, or your internal team can execute the roadmap directly. We scope that decision explicitly before work begins, so there's no ambiguity about what you're paying for at each stage.
Common questions.
It depends entirely on scope: a single application migration can take weeks, while a full data center exit can take a year or more. The migration roadmap itself, the planning phase, typically takes two to four weeks depending on environment complexity.
A phased plan for moving workloads in a sequence that manages risk and business disruption, rather than moving everything at once. It groups workloads by migration strategy, sequences them by dependency and risk, and ties each phase to a specific business outcome.
Both, depending on what you need. Many clients engage us for the roadmap alone and execute internally. Others want Denvan involved through cutover. We scope this explicitly at the start of the engagement.
